As I lay me down to sleep
I pray a girl my love to keep
I pray she'll protect me thru the nite
And wake me with her smile's light
And if she's not there when I wake
I pray the Lord my pain to take
I have cried one too many
From giving love and not gaining any
So as I lay me down to sleep
I pray tomorrow a girl I'll meet
To spare her shoulder to cry upon
And as I wake she won't be gone
To hold me close when it gets dark
To pick up my pieces when I fall apart
A girl who knows there's no need for lies
A girl who exists when I open my eyes
Now as I lay me down to sleep
A pray for a girl to take a leap
Not just for love, but so much more
I pray she'll be waiting at my door
I pray my love she will embrace
But I'll keep a distance just incase
I pray you'll provide a girl that's original
I pray she'll provide a love unconditional
So this is the prayer I always repeat
